Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) The ACP is an FCC benefit program that provides support for households on their internet costs. Please see https://www.fcc.gov/acp for more information. There are many ways to be eligible, but one way is if a child participates in the free and reduced-price meals.

THE SCHLEY COUNTY WIDCATS WON their semi-final matchup against Johnson Countyon Friday night! This means they will be traveling to Atlanta to play for the State Championship at Center Parc Stadium, Thursday, December 8th. As this is a first-ever state football championship game for our entire community, we will be releasing all students at noon Thursday so that all students, faculty, and staff may have the opportunity to travel to the game. The scheduled game time is 5:00, however, there are three games preceding our game. This could mean a later actual start time. Because of the expected late return Thursday night into Friday morning, we will not hold in person classes on Friday. Friday will be an asynchronous learning day. Lessons and activities will be provided to students to complete at their own pacing by Monday. Please join us in supporting our players, cheerleaders, and band in Atlanta this Thursday! Go Wildcats!

Congress has decided to not continue providing wireless services for students through the Emergency Connectivity Fund. If you have a Verizon MiFi device that was given to you from Schley County School System using the Emergency Connectivity Fund then those services will be discontinued very soon. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. At the beginning of the program there was hope that funding would be renewed. However, that has not been the case. Also, please return the Verizon Mifi device at the board office at your earliest convenience.

Parents and students, Planned renovations for the middle high school are set to begin very quickly this summer. During this first phase, roof and HVAC replacement will take place. Inside improvements for classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, office entryway, and media center will follow. The building will be closed beginning May 25th. The middle high office will remain open and operate from the elementary school “B-hall”. You may reach them by phone or email as usual. For in-person contact, please come to the main elementary office and they can direct you to the correct room. Traffic on campus will be altered for the summer due to the equipment needed to access the roof. The south entrance from old 19 that goes directly into the student parking lot will be closed. Also, the drive that goes directly to the main high school office will be blocked. Access to the parking lot between both schools will be restricted at varying times based on the movement of materials and the pace of work on top of the middle high school. The front parking lot of the elementary school and the north elementary parking lot (within the car rider loop) will remain open. Additionally, the drive that connects this lot to the softball/ baseball fields will be the main access for summer workouts and sports activities. Anyone participating in summer conditioning and sports practices must enter from the first elementary drive. This will be an extremely busy summer, but we are very excited to be improving our facility. Our planned school calendar allows for a longer summer. The school begins next year on August 12th. We wish everyone a safe and happy summer. As we make progress on this project, we will provide updates and information preparing for students’ return this fall. Brian Hall

GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENT Senior Parents & Students, The weather forecast for Saturday is calling for an increased chance of rain. Due to the uncertainty of the weather forecast on Saturday and without the availability of our gym, we will be moving the graduation ceremony to Georgia Southwestern State University's Storm Dome. The time is still at 9:00 AM. We are making this decision now to give families time to adjust their schedules for the new venue. Our gym is currently covered and being used for storage due to summer renovation. The facilities at GSW will offer a large climate-controlled space to comfortably honor our graduates. Graduation practice for tomorrow will be at the elementary school gym at 9:00 AM. Students may park in any open spaces in the teacher parking lots or the student parking lot. We appreciate your understanding as we look forward to an uninterrupted graduation ceremony.

We would like to remind the community to please help keep our kids safe by following the law and stopping for school bus crossing arms. Over the past month, we have had multiple incidents of drivers not stopping for deployed school bus crossing arms. Our school buses are equipped with camera systems which record and identify the violators. If drivers do not obey the law as it pertains to stopping for school buses, they will be issued a citation by law enforcement. Please obey the law and help keep our kids safe!

We are deeply saddened by the loss of a member of our Schley County School family. Mr. Charles Greer, “Blue Bird” passed suddenly today. Mr. Greer was an important part of our school transportation department. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time. The loss of Mr. Greer will be felt among those students he drove to and from school each day as well as his fellow coworkers. Counselors will be on hand to assist students and adults as they return to classes tomorrow morning.
